ABOUT MEMy first job was working in accounting and finance at a medical manufacturing company, later moving into systems, then mergers and acquisitions. During this time, I found I gravitated to the people side of business even though my work was more related to analysis. I enjoyed the training and management of people as much as I did the project planning and implementation.
After working in the this arena for a while, I took some time off to travel and see what the other side of the world looked like. That time instilled in me a great appreciation for different cultures, religions, and ways of life. It inspired me to pursue a career more in line with my true interest: working with people and helping them make the most of their lives. I went back to school in counseling psychology and learned much in a whole new area. In my psychological training and early professional positions I assisted people with a wide range of needs in many settings, including public clinics, mental health agencies, pain management clinics, and public schools. During this time, my clients ranged from young children to senior citizens, with problems which varied from family squabbles to adjusting to the reality of psychotic hallucinations. This training and earlier work helped me to understand what areas of mental health I enjoyed and the type of person I am most effective in helping. Now, I focus on providing services through my private practice. I also spend a limited amount of time in my position as a University Clinical Practicum Supervisor for students training to be counselors. I also provide supervision to other mental health practitioners. I am licensed by the Texas Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors as a Licenced Professional Counselor (LPC) and as a LPC Supervisor. Six years of college and approximately 2 more years of supervised practice are required for the license. I keep my skills current by attending annual training on relevant topics, reading, and staying active as adjunct faculty at OLLU. This sounds like a lot of work, but I truly enjoy learning and helping others learn. Education
